Following the meeting, Labus said they also discussed technical and political issues of the negotiating process, and agreed that this opportunity should be used to ensure that the SAA is signed within a reasonable period.
Thanks to Great Britain, which currently holds the EU’s rotating presidency, the positive decision on further EU enlargement was made this Monday, he said.
Chilcott pointed out that this decision is but the first step on a long and arduous road. However, he voiced hope that this goal will be achieved owing to Serbia-Montenegro’s efforts.
Labus and Chilcott stressed that the beginning of talks on the SAA means that work on necessary legal, economic and institutional changes will continue.
“This means the EU will be monitoring how we enforce, and not just pass laws and regulations”, the Deputy Prime Minister explained.
