Starting projects of national importance in early 2021

Belgrade, 11 December 2020

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic chaired today the session of the Council for Coordination of Activities and Measures for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Growth, at which it was stated that it is necessary to start construction and infrastructure projects of national importance.

Brnabic stated that, among other things, these are the construction of the Fruska gora corridor, the sections of the Nis-Merdare road, New Belgrade-Surcin, as well as the gas interconnections Serbia-Bulgaria.

It was said at the session that the list of priorities includes the construction and reconstruction of railway infrastructure, but also projects in the field of environmental protection, especially when it comes to the construction of wastewater treatment plants, where everything is ready to start construction in 17 municipalities in Serbia.

When it comes to Belgrade, the construction of the Belgrade metro is planned for the end of next year, while the construction of the Industrial Park in Borca, as it was estimated, will give a completely new life to that part of the city.

In the last year, a significantly higher number of built squares in housing units is recorded, compared to 2019, and other large projects are nearing completion, it was stated at the session.

The members of the Council informed the Prime Minister that the works on the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina will begin soon, as well as the equipment of the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases "Dedinje 2" and that in 2021 the construction of the Children's Hospital "Tirsova 2" was agreed.

It was also emphasized that the support for economic entities will be continued through the existing guarantee scheme, and that a new guarantee scheme for economic support and liquidity preservation will be implemented next year with the American Financial Corporation (DFC).

After the analysis of the most important economic results in all economic areas, at the session of the Council for Coordination of Activities and Measures for GDP Growth, it was concluded that the Serbian economy showed good results despite the catastrophic conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
