Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today via video link with Regional Director of the World Health Organisation for Europe Hans Kluge about the epidemiological situation and measures being implemented in the fight against COVID-19.

WHO welcomes Serbia's efforts to combat COVID-19

Brnabic pointed out that the current situation with the epidemic is serious, but that, thanks to the measures taken by the state, it is kept under control, as well as that daily efforts are made to protect the country's health system.
In order to fight the virus as effectively as possible, new, more restrictive measures have been adopted as of today, the Prime Minister pointed out and added that Serbia continues to invest significant funds in health care, which remains a key priority of the new government.
She underlined that Serbia is very interested in getting the vaccine, as soon as it is approved by the relevant institutions, and that our country has already signed pre-agreements with certain pharmaceutical companies that are working on making the vaccine.
According to her, the vaccine will be free for all citizens of Serbia.
Kluge welcomed Serbia's measures and efforts in the fight against COVID-19, adding that remarkable progress has been made in that field, and added that they were especially encouraged by information about the government's plans for further development and modernisation of the health system, through digitalisation and database formation.
He explained that in the fight against the pandemic, special attention should be paid to schools.
The importance of the contact monitoring system was also discussed at the meeting in order to obtain the most accurate data on the number of patients, and the Prime Minister accordingly pointed out that Serbia is increasing the number of tested citizens every day.
At the beginning of the pandemic, we could test only 800 people, while today we have 12,000 PCR tests on a daily basis, Brnabic specified.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar, who appealed for an even distribution of the vaccine for health workers in all countries, which was approved by Kluge, who confirmed that three percent will be intended for all health institutions and workers in social care systems.
