Brnabic and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic pointed out during the talks with representatives of media and journalist associations from the Working Group that the Action Plan will be adopted at a session of the Serbian government as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister underlined that the work on the implementation of this action plan is now ahead of us, and it will be carried out by the competent Ministry of Culture and Information.
She pointed out that the plan is to form a working group that will deal with the implementation of the Action Plan for Media Strategy and a set of new media laws, which will consist of representatives of the state and media and journalist associations, in a similar format as before.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is very important that the new Minister of Culture and Information, Maja Gojkovic, withdrew all requests for court proceedings against media houses and journalists, and there were a total of nine, as well as five criminal charges against the media.
Also, 10 statements were removed from the website of the Ministry, which Minister Gojkovic described as a personal war of her predecessor against journalists.
Brnabic stated that, in addition to the Media Strategy, another important topic is the safety of journalists and that the idea is to form a new working group for the safety and protection of journalists.
This working group would consist of representatives of competent state bodies, media and journalist associations and representatives of partners from international organisations - the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Norwegian Embassy.
The safety of journalists is a red line, the Serbian government will not tolerate any threats, especially the physical endangerment of journalists, the Prime Minister said.
Gojkovic said that returning issues important for the media to their parent institution, the Ministry of Culture and Information, is also a great responsibility and that a lot of work is ahead and underlined that the media is one of the pillars of democracy in our country.
