Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and Chairman of the Czech Council on Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jiri Diestbier agreed today that Serbia’s further economic development and the inflow of foreign investment is conditioned by its getting closer to the EU.
Labus said he is optimistic about the beginning of talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, and added that he thinks it will be signed next year.
Jiri Diestbier said that the Czech Republic strongly supports Serbia's association with the EU and announced that a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries will be signed soon, as a concrete step aimed at improving overall cooperation.
Diestbier and Labus also talked about the business climate in Serbia and possibilities for investment. Diestbier said that Czech businessmen are very interested in investing in Serbia and added that an information centre was set up in Prague in order to bring Serbia closer to the Czechs.
