Government advocates improvement of position of women

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated that much more needs to be done in Serbia to improve the position of women in society and that the Serbian government is open to all initiatives that would lead to that.

In a statement for today's issue of the daily Blic, on the occasion of the first position on the list of the 100 most powerful women in Serbia, Brnabic stated that there are 10 women on ministerial positions in our country and that the Serbian government is unique in the region in this regard and is making a step in the right direction.

She recalled that women in Serbia held leading positions at the National Bank, the parliament, the Tax Administration and showed excellent results, as well as that the law stipulates that each electoral list must have at least 40 percent of women.

We have done a lot in the previous period of which we should be proud of, but we must also not deceive ourselves that we live in a society in which women and men are equal, said the Prime Minister.

According to her, the position of especially vulnerable groups should be changed first of all, and these are women in the countryside, women who are victims of violence, women with disabilities and Roma women.

I would like other institutions, local self-government bodies, the private and public sector to follow the example of equal representation of women that we have achieved in the Serbian government, Brnabic underlined.
