Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo attend today in Belgrade the opening of a centre for innovation and digital development of company Huawei.
Brnabic expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners on the opening of a new centre as that will significantly help the further digitalisation in Serbia.
The Prime Minister underlined that the share of ICT in Serbia’s GDP stood at 6% at the end of the first half of this year, whereas in 2012 that figure was 2.4%.
Now the share of ICT in the GDP has exceeded the share of the entire construction sector, of transportation sector, as well as tourism and if we continue like this, it will also exceed the share of agriculture, by which we will achieve the goal, Brnabic said.
She recalled that she set the digital transformation of the country as a priority of her government so that the Serbian economy would become based on innovation and creativity.
That will help the economy to develop much faster, that the country be more resistant to all challenges and changes, that the quality of life in Serbia be better and that there are more opportunities for young people. Today, at the end of the term of this government, I can say we have achieved a lot, the Prime Minister stated.
Answering the questions as to whether some points of the Washington agreement can have impact on the relations with Huawei, the Prime Minister underlined that Serbia is not interested in unreliable technologies, rather the contrary, it wants a tender for the introduction of the 5G network to be open and transparent, with the respect of international standards, as stipulated by the Washington agreement.
Chen Bo said that the overall strategic partnership between Serbia and China is constantly developing and that cooperation in all fields has led to big and fruitful results, which contributed to the economic development of the two countries and concrete benefit to the citizens.
