Speaking at a press conference at the Serbian government, Milosavljevic said that that day is a good opportunity for citizens to remind themselves of the causes of cardiovascular diseases and to promote healthy lifestyles with the aim of reducing risks of such diseases.
To that end, the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with Belgrade authorities and the US Embassy to Serbia-Montenegro will organise a walk and a race at Ada Ciganlija, after which a Health Fair will be held.
According to Milosavljevic, health workers, government representatives, diplomats and citizens will take part in the event. As a part of this event, attendees will have an opportunity to speak with doctors, and to measure their blood pressure and the level of fats and sugar in their blood.
The minister stressed that the "mass killers" of Serbian citizens are cardiovascular diseases and malign tumours, and added that raising citizens' awareness on healthy lifestyles is a societal obligation.
Head of the regional medical centre at the US Embassy William Green voiced hope that many people will attend the "Healthy Heart" event. He stressed that the US Embassy, the Serbian Ministry of Health and local authorities must work together to make a positive effect on society and to improve the health of Serbia's citizens on both the local and national level.
