Dacic said that he is pleased to attend an event dedicated to positive examples of the Serbian-American cooperation, to two great men, Professor Mihajilo Pupin and President Woodrow Wilson, who left a deep trace with their achievements, activism and political activity and indebted not only the two peoples – Serbian and American, but the entire humanity.
Throughout history, the United States and Serbia have shared common values and fought together for the preservation of the principles of freedom and civilisation achievements, but despite that, the second half of the 20th century brought great challenges and significant disagreements in the Serbian-American relations.
That is why it is important to highlight over and over again the positive aspects of our common past, so that some wrong concepts that we created about each other could be changed today, Dacic underlined.
According to him, Pupin was integrated into American society as a world-renowned scientist, but he became almost equally famous as an eloquent, recognisable and consistent representative of the Kingdom of Serbia, and later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the Serbs in the United States.
He underlined that the best reflection of the friendship of Pupin and President Wilson, as well as the dimension of respect paid to the Serbian people, is the most touching moment in the Serbian-American relations when the Serbian flag was flown over the White House on 28 July 1918.
The understanding that existed between Pupin and President Wilson significantly contributed to the achievement of the negotiation goals of the Serbian state delegation at the Paris Peace Conference, he stated.
Dacic underlined that today we should be engaged all together on encouraging members of the Serbian diaspora in the United States to utilise their abilities, contacts and resources in the line of patriotism and love for their old homeland.
