Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that the topic of protection of children from violence and its prevention is one of the most important for society and that it concerns not only institutions, but the entire society.
After the presentation of the Strategy for Prevention and Protection of Children from Violence, Brnabic stated that the basic starting point of that document is the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and that strategic document, besides being the most important for society and investment in it, is important for Serbia's European integration. which is discussed in Chapter 23 in the EU membership negotiations.
The government dealt with this issue systematically, and not spontaneously, she underlined, reminding that the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence was adopted, which envisages a special procedure for children as a particularly vulnerable category.
According to her, since the beginning of the application of that law, on June 1, 2017, 141,529 cases have been registered, urgent measures have been adopted for 50,127, and 42,246 individual plans for victims have been made.
Also, as she added, for 1,715 children, the competent authorities determined that they were victims and that in those cases an urgent extended measure of protection of those children was adopted.
