Charters for promotion of Serbia’s interests in the world awarded

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic awarded today the charters for exceptional personal engagement and contribution to the promotion of interests of Serbia and its people in the world.

On the occasion of the Diplomacy Day, Dacic spoke about the importance of a competent consular service and a network of consular representative offices of Serbia around the world, which, as he said, bore the greatest burden during the coronavirus pandemic.

Through its diplomatic network, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs planned, coordinated and realised the evacuation of a total of 19,000 Serbian citizens who happened to be abroad at the moment of the declaration of the pandemic, Dacic said.

On 37 humanitarian flights to EU countries and destinations outside Europe 5,010 Serbian citizens were returned, whereas around 14,000 citizens were returned by land.

He especially pointed out that foreign nationals who wanted to go back to their countries were not neglected, so a total of 809 foreign nationals were transported back to their countries free of charge.

Dacic delivered the charter to tennis player Novak Djokovic for exceptional personal engagement and contribution to the promotion of the interests of Serbia and its people in the world and underlined that Djokovic is a living legend and a proof that athletes are maybe our country’s best ambassadors.

Djokovic said that he tries every day to advocate true values and virtues of life that are deeply rooted not only in his family, but in the entire Serbian people, and these are: devotedness, respect, magnanimity, equality.
