At today's sitting, the government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Bill amending the Law on the Election of Members of Parliament, as well as the Bill amending the Law on Local Elections.
The proposed changes provide that, in all cities and municipalities, voter signatures supporting electoral lists for parliamentary and local elections, in addition to notaries, may be certified by city or municipal administrations.
The proposed changes are justified by the need to increase the number of certified certification bodies for the conduct of the electoral process, which prevents the danger of larger gatherings of electoral actors and activists, as well as of too many persons on the premises and in front of the premises of the competent authorities.
The amendments were adopted in order to protect the health of citizens, since even after the state of emergency is abolished, appropriate measures of physical distance should be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
