Trickovic said at a press conference, marking the launch of the reconstruction works, that the institute received €2 million out of total loan worth €50 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB), as part of the project for improving the emergency reconstruction of Serbia’s health sector.
He pointed out that these funds will be used for purchasing seven modern medical devices and for necessary reworking of the wiring, plumbing and drainage systems, as well as for a medical gas and vacuum distribution system.
The Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic recalled that the overall project includes the emergency reconstruction of 19 general hospitals across Serbia and the Torlak Institute for Immunology and Virology.
Milosavljevic pointed out that since the beginning of this project, back in March 2004, there have been 16 invitations for bids and 25 agreements have been signed. The Smederevo hospital construction works have already been completed and works are under way in seven additional health institutions. He went on to say that deadlines will be met, otherwise, “penalties will be paid”.
He said that he hopes the €50 million investment in the health sector, will bring back dignity and faith to those people who use these health institutions, as well as for those who work in them.
