Serbia fully committed to digitising, transforming public administration

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that the goal of our country is that in the next three years, all citizens of Serbia have access to the internet, because, as she pointed out, this is one of the basic human rights.

Speaking at a conference called “Digital Cooperation: Transforming Governments”, Brnabic said that the current internet coverage in Serbia is approximately 60%.

She announced that a competition would be launched in March to bring the internet into 600 settlements and allow it to be used by 90,000 households.

The Prime Minister also announced that a new eGovernment portal was launched today, and said that digitisation and transformation of public administration is a great chance for radical reform.

Serbia is fully committed to digitisation. We have done a lot in that area over the past three years, said Brnabic.

According to Brnabic, in the aforementioned period, from a country that did not even have basic registers in electronic form, Serbia has become the country in which the majority of information is exchanged electronically among authorities.

She noted that the number of documents exchanged reached eight million today, meaning that eight million citizens or businessmen did not have to visit the counters as before.

She recalled that thanks to just one electronic service such as eBeba, parents saved 1.3 million waiting hours and approximately €4 million, as the whole process of registering newborn babies is completed in a maternity ward in 15 minutes.

The Prime Minister said that eRegister, ePrescription, eCadastre, eInspector, electronic tax payment, electronic registration of seasonal workers and eJustice were introduced, announcing that in 2020 electronic enrollment of children in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools will be enabled.

As she pointed out, eGovernment also protects the environment, so the calculation shows that to date we have saved approximately 103 million sheets of A4 paper, which is 517 tonnes of paper, saving more than 10,000 trees.

Brnabic announced that the government's future focus will be on health, education, introducing social cards and education.

Along with the development of eGovernment, our focus is shifting to strengthening infrastructure so that businesses can access secure internet. We are building roads, but at the same time the government is paying a lot of attention to digital roads too, the Prime Minister said.
