As part of her visit to China, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic today gave a lecture to the students of Jiao Tong University, the second largest in Shanghai, established in 1896.
Brnabic spoke to the Chinese and Serbian students, who are doing their specialist studies there, about the relations between Serbia and China, and also about our country's efforts to become one of the leaders in the development of innovative technologies.
She said she is proud to see students from Serbia at this institution of higher education in Shanghai, expressing her hope that they will return to Serbia after their studies.
The citizens of Serbia, as she pointed out, know a lot about Chinese investments in our country and the support provided by that country, which is one of Serbia's greatest friends.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia, which is on the path to the European Union, sometimes gets criticized for its close cooperation with China, although those who criticise it forget that as much as 90 percent of Chinese investments in the Old Continent have been made in Western Europe precisely.
Brnabic pointed out that Serbia is not a member of the European Union, but is in the process of accession, and at the same time it is a very close friend and partner of China, of which she is very proud.
The Prime Minister noted that after the financial consolidation of Serbia, the government's main challenge is the transformation to a knowledge-based and innovation-based economy, which is why so much is being invested in the digitisation of education, public administration and the economy.
We expect to deepen cooperation with China, especially in the IT field, where Serbia can learn a lot, Brnabic said.
At the end of the lecture, the Prime Minister received a monograph from Jiao Tong University from the rector, and she gave a naïve art painting from Kovacica as a return gift.
