Serbia committed to cooperation, free flow of goods and services

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic visited Athens today at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, where she participated in the 4th EU-Arab World Summit entitled “Strategic Partnership”.

On the sidelines of the summit, Brnabic met with Greek President Prokopius Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss Serbo-Greek relations.

The Prime Minister stated that Serbia has traditionally very good relations with Greece and that the High Council for Cooperation between Greece and Serbia is a particularly important mechanism in these relations.

She announced that the 3rd session of the High Council will be held in December and that the Serbian delegation in Athens will be headed by President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

A declaration on strategic partnership between Greece and Serbia is currently being prepared and I hope that this document will be signed at the December session, which will open the possibilities for even better cooperation between our two countries, Brnabic stated.

The Prime Minister underlined that we have very good political cooperation with Greece and that there is room for improvement of economic cooperation, which is quite modest at the moment.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the fact that both countries are in a much better situation than a few years ago and pointed out that all reforms implemented in Serbia since 2014 have produced results.

Commenting on the EU-Arab Summit, the Prime Minister stressed that she was in a position to present a different perspective of our country, which aims to become a member of the European Union.

She noted that our cooperation with Arab countries is extremely good and that their market is important primarily for agricultural products, but that she hopes that in the future it will also be important for Serbian digital products and the export of our IT services, which is growing year in year out.

This is a different perspective of a country that can still work with both the EU and third countries and organisations. I called for all of us in the world to think a little more about cooperation instead of protectionism. As Prime Minister of Serbia, I still believe that cooperation, free movement of goods and services, people and capital is a much better answer than barriers and protectionism, and that is also the policy of the Republic of Serbia, Brnabic concluded.
