High level of cooperation of Serbia with Iran, Qatar, Mexico, Cyprus

Belgrade, 15 October 2019

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic today met with the heads of four parliamentary delegations staying in Belgrade at the 141st session of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU).

Speaking to a delegation of the Islamic Constituent Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Brnabic expressed her gratitude to the country for not recognising Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence.

The officials agreed that the political relations between the two countries are good and that there was potential for enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of culture, education and science.

At a meeting with a delegation of the Qatar Consultative Council, led by Ahmed bin Abdullah al Mahmud, the Prime Minister stressed that Serbia is determined to work intensively on restoring the former high level of cooperation with traditionally friendly countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, and that interstate cooperation should be developed on the basis of mutual interest in stability, economic and cultural development.

Brnabic said that Serbia is focused on further advancing in the IT sector, innovation, research and development, and that it is fully open to new investments from Qatar.

Speaking to the delegation of the House of Representatives of the Congress of Mexico, she pointed out the traditionally good relations between Mexico and Serbia, as well as the two countries' friendly relations based on respect for international law and the territorial integrity of sovereign states.

Interest was expressed in further deepening economic cooperation, as well as in the exchange of experience in the areas of migration, human rights, the fight against terrorism and organised crime.

The Prime Minister also spoke with Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris, and during the talks it was pointed out that the relations between Belgrade and Nicosia are traditionally close and good, without any open questions.

Brnabic thanked Syllouris for the support that Cyprus provides to our country when it comes to not recognisng Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence and the path to EU membership.
