Serbia pays special attention to the modernization of agriculture

Prime Minister spoke today with new Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Qu Dongyu about expanding cooperation.

Qu said that he is the first Director-General of FAO to come to Serbia, and that this is his first bilateral visit since his recent appointment to that position.

Many countries would have something to learn from you, he said, adding that FAO is extremely interested in cooperating in the digitisation of agriculture and the application of new technologies in food production.

The FAO Director-General also estimated that the smartphone is now a new tool on farms.

Brnabic emphasised that the government of Serbia is ready to improve cooperation with FAO, and in that context stated that the BioSens Institute in Novi Sad, which applies innovative IT solutions and digitization in order to increase the efficiency of domestic production, is the best example of this.

The officials also discussed the development of agricultural production of small, family farms and the improvement of the standard of living in rural areas for women and men, as well as the creation of a supportive environment for sustainable agricultural production.

They also talked about strengthening resilience to natural disasters and climate change, improving sustainable management of natural resources and increasing the competitiveness of the agriculture and food production sectors by modernizing market chains.
