Joksimovic, Flessenkemper: CoE expert recommendations important for Serbia

Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and Head of Belgrade Office of the Council of Europe (CoE) Tobias Flessenkemper discussed today the intensification of cooperation between Serbia and the Council of Europe, especially in the context of implementing the recommendations of that European institution, as well as the process of accession of our country to the EU.

Joksimovic pointed out that Serbia pays special attention to adopting and implementing Council of Europe standards - especially in the process of European integration, which is a strategic foreign policy interest of our country.

According to her, more than half of the citizens of Serbia - 53 percent, are pro-European and 68 percent support the implementation of reforms, of which the rule of law is particularly important.

Concerning Council of Europe standards, Joksimovic also highlighted the importance of the Horizontal Support Programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union, whose second phase was recently approved.

Flessenkemper confirmed that the Council of Europe will continue to assist the development of the most important segments of the rule of law in the future.

He assessed that Serbia is one of the most active members of the Council of Europe and that it is committed to reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law and human rights.
