Parliamentary cooperation important segment of strengthening relations of Serbia, France

Belgrade, 14 June 2019

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with French parliament members led by Jacques Maire about bilateral political relations and the expansion of economic cooperation.

Brnabic pointed out that the relations between Serbia and France are good and substantial and assessed that the intensification of parliamentary cooperation in the past three years is an important segment in strengthening the bilateral relations of the two countries.

The Prime Minister said that joining the European Union remains a strategic goal of the Serbian government, along with the further implementation of the necessary reforms on the way to membership.

She reiterated that Pristina's unilateral moves can destabilise the entire region of the Western Balkans. The Prime Minister underlined that Serbia remains convinced that the only way to solve the problem is to reach a compromise solution that would be acceptable to both sides.

The French MPs voiced support for reforms implemented by Serbia on the European path, with the view that such visits contribute to strengthening ties and help to spread European values in the region.

The French guests handed over to Prime Minister Brnabic the initiative of the French MPs to establish a dialogue among the parliaments of the region within the framework of the Berlin Process.

The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with strengthening economic cooperation and assessed that there is room for new French investments in Serbia.
