Future of Serbia, region in EU

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic assessed today in a meeting with the OSCE Mission and with Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Miroslav Lajcak that Serbia is very satisfied with cooperation with the OSCE, and that Slovakia during its OSCE presidency pays special attention to the Western Balkans region.

Good cooperation with the OSCE, according to the Prime Minister, also contributes to excellent relations with Slovakia, as evidenced by the recent successful visit of Prime Minister of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini to Serbia.

Lajcak stressed that the future of Serbia and the region is in the European Union and expressed strong support to the government of Serbia for continuing the reforms.

Slovakia, as a friendly country, will continue to provide assistance and support to Serbia on its European path, Lajcak said.

Speaking about European integration, the Prime Minister said that the European perspective is a sovereign and strategic decision of Serbia aimed at the complete change of society in accordance with European standards and values.

Brnabic also informed the OSCE Chairman about the reforms in the field of justice, which, she said, was conducted transparently and for the first time with a serious and fundamental public debate.

Lajcak said that the stability and progress of Serbia and the region are closely linked to the finding of a compromise solution with Pristina.

Emphasising that dialogue has no alternative, he stressed that it is necessary for Pristina to withdraw taxes in order to overcome the current situation and continue the dialogue.

Speaking about the continuation of the dialogue, the Prime Minister stressed that Pristina is causing damage by unilateral moves to the detriment of all citizens in the territory of Kosovo-Metohija and the entire region, endangering its stability.

At the same time, she stressed that in this situation, Serbia will continue to act constructively and responsibly.

The Prime Minister thanked OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the cooperation and once again stressed the importance of the operation of this Mission in Kosovo-Metohija.
