Systemic work of government in field of food safety

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that there can be no compromise when it comes to food safety on the Serbian market and pointed out that the government deals in a systemic way with that matter.

Opening the conference "Food Safety - The Future of Healthy Serbia", Brnabic stressed that the government is implementing reforms in the field of food safety first of all for the sake of citizens of Serbia and the quality of their lives, not because of compliance with norms and formal harmonisation with EU regulations.

She said that the opening of the National Laboratory for the Quality Control of Milk is a great systemic success, because this laboratory is fully in line with European standards and around €3 million was allocated for its equipment.

This laboratory is a true example of modernisation and the reform we are implementing, the Prime Minister said and added that the opening of Physico-Chemical Laboratory with the most modern equipment will take place soon.

In the area of food safety, cooperation between the ministry, the food industry and consumers is necessary, Brnabic explained, and added that the state is working systemically on the modernisation and digitisation of agriculture.

According to her, only two percent of agricultural land is currently under irrigation systems, and it is planned that this number be between seven and eight percent at the end of the term of the current government.
