True results of cooperation with China yet expected

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic pointed out today at the Economic-Trade Forum, within the 8th Summit of China and 16 countries of Central and Eastern Europe, that Serbia remains at the top of the list of countries the largest number of joint infrastructure projects implemented and agreed with China.

At the gathering in Dubrovnik, Brnabic pointed out that within the format "16+1" that Serbia is recognizable by capital infrastructure projects, and that it is interested in strengthening cooperation, primarily in the fields of digitisation, innovation and education.

She pointed out that our country is also interested in cooperation in the field of agriculture, especially export of lamb and beef, milk and dairy products to China.

The Prime Minister said that the 16+1 format itself is part of the global initiative "Belt and Road", which is of particular importance, and announced that President Aleksandar Vucic will represent Serbia in a few days in the coming forum in Beijing.

We are pleased with the progress of the modernisation project of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, which is also the first regional project within the "16+1" initiative, said Brnabic.

According to Brnabic, the second phase of the reconstruction of the Kostolac thermal power plant is in progress, as well as the construction of Corridor 11 (Belgrade-South Adriatic highway), which will contribute to connecting South-Eastern Europe with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

Speaking about the area of water transport, Brnabic said that Serbia has plans to build new ports in Belgrade and Smederevo.

The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to the Chinese side on the occasion of two new major investments in Serbia: Zijdin's investments in RTB Bor of $1.26 billion and the investments of Shandong Linglong in Zrenjanin in the amount of 800 million, which will undoubtedly represent important part of the Serbian economy in the future.

China is building new financial mechanisms for global prosperity, such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and it is my pleasure to say that the Board of Governors of this bank approved the admission of Serbia into membership, thus becoming part of a community that now has 93 countries, she stressed.

According to Brnabic, since the previous summit in Sofia, Serbia has opened the Cultural Centre in Beijing, and and the opening of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Belgrade is expected.

All in all, it seems to me that in the eight years since the first summit in Warsaw, we have achieved a lot, but also that the true results of this cooperation are still expected, Brnabic said.
