Improving cooperation of Serbian, American institutions of culture

Belgrade, 15 March 2019

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce about the development of cooperation and realisation of projects in the field of culture and education.

Brnabic pointed out that this visit is very important because it is focused on areas that we consider to be crucial for the overall transformation of society.

Serbia invests heavily in reforms in the field of culture and education, she said and added that in addition to intensifying political dialogue at the highest level with the United States, the expansion of cooperation through concrete projects is also important to us, especially in priority areas for Serbia, such as education, culture, digitisation and the IT sector.

She suggested intensifying resident programmes for artists, as well as cooperation between domestic and American institutions of culture.

The US Assistant Secretary of State assessed that the current cooperation in the field of culture and education is very successful and that it is a good basis for further development and new projects.

She added that she strongly promotes and encourages exchange and scholarship programmes for students and experts, as they contribute to better mutual understanding, the abolition of stereotypes and create conditions for better communication.

Noting that investments in the United States are very important for Serbia, Brnabic informed Royce about various cultural projects that are being implemented in cooperation with US partners.
