Cooperation of Serbia with International Labour Organization

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with Regional Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Europe and Central Asia Heinz Koller about concrete cooperation of Serbia with this organization and implementation of the signed Decent Work Programme from 2019 to 2022.

Brnabic explained that the Serbian government is working on reforms in the education sector and retraining of the unemployed in cooperation with the National Employment Service, in order to monitor the needs of the market and reduce unemployment.

She pointed out that the projection of the need for staff at starting positions in the ICT sector is about 3,000 people per year, but that all funds invested in their education and retraining are returned through taxes and contributions of employers to the budget of Serbia in less than a year.

Koller praised efforts that the Prime Minister of Serbia personally invests in the transformation of Serbia as a leader in the field of digital economy and digital infrastructure in the region.

He pointed out that digitization is a great opportunity for Serbia and invited Brnabic to participate in a conference in Geneva in June this year which the ILO is organising on the occasion of the centenary of its foundation. This will be an opportunity for other participating countries to learn about positive results Serbia has achieved in this field.
