As part of an appeal to citizens in Serbia to preserve one of the country’s most precious natural resources, the project partners created a media campaign entitled “Our River. Our Future” already underway, whose aim is to raise awareness of the Danube’s importance to the life and future of millions of people who live along its river basin, an appeal for a more responsible attitude towards one of the most vital ecosystems in Europe.
Danube Day (June 29) will be marked in Serbia with numerous activities – a cleanup of its banks, regattas and bicycle races, photo exhibitions and screenings of films about the Danube, river cruises on the Danube and its tributaries, simultaneously in several towns in Serbia: Novi Sad, Apatin, Smederevo, on the Tisa and Zasavica rivers.
The central event is scheduled for July 2 in Belgrade, designed as a journey through the history of the river at three different locations symbolically representing the past, present and future of the Danube.
