Serbia-Montenegrin Ambassador to UNESCO Dragoljub Najman submitted a request for including the oldest manuscript in Serbian in June last year.
At its most recent meeting in Lijiang (China), held from May 30 to June 16, the UNESCO Advisory Committee recommended the inclusion of 29 new collections or manuscripts from 24 countries to the Memory of the World Register.
Among the submitted collections is the Miroslav Gospel, a manuscript dating from around 1170, one of the richest of its kind and the best example of the style that emerged from a fusion of Italian and Byzantine influences.
UNESCO initiated the Memory of the World Register in 1992, aimed at preserving world cultural heritage and making it accessible to all.
