Speaking at a conference at which the bill was presented, Vuksanovic said that the bill concerns all forms of student organisations and activities and once it is enacted, Serbia will become the third country with a law of that kind.
The Minister explained that there are still two more bills under preparation, those being the bill on higher education and the bill on students’ standard. Completion of legislative activity in this field is expected in seven to eight months.
Representative of the Union of Students of Belgrade Srecko Sekeljic pointed out that this bill will prevent certain political structures from abusing students, and added that legitimately, through institutions, students will be able to have their say when it comes to improving higher education and society in general.
According to him, the bill was composed by a working group comprising four student Vice-Chancellors and representatives of student organisations that have already had an active role in the making of legislative regulations – the Union of Students of Belgrade, the Union of Students of Serbia, the Student Association of Kragujevac and the Association of Disabled Students, with the professional and technical support provided by the Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport.
