Opening the two-day conference of police chiefs of south-east European countries entitled ‘Regional Cooperation Towards Stability and Security’, Jocic pointed out the necessity of improving and constantly exchanging practical experiences and knowledge of police departments in the countries of southeastern Europe.
Head of the Public Security Service of the Serbian Ministry of Interior Miroslav Milosevic said that today’s conference of police chiefs illustrates that they are all prepared to make efforts in order to achieve better stability in the region.
“Southeastern Europe is leaving a period of conflicts and instability behind it, and to fully overcome such a state, we need the rule of law as well as setting up and expanding regional cooperation of police departments, especially when it comes to fighting organised crime”, Milosevic said.
Austrian Minister of Interior Liese Prokop, who also addressed the conference participants, stressed that it takes a legal framework to fight organised crime, adding that Austria and Serbia have concluded a contract on cooperation between their police departments.
Police chiefs of several southeastern Europe countries also took part in the conference, held under the auspices of the Hans Zeidel Foundation.
