Encouraging youth innovation, creativity

Novi Sad, 21 November 2018

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in Novi Sad tonight that the main priorities of Serbia in the coming period are reform of the education system and the stimulation of innovation and creativity.

Speaking at a ceremony at which the city of Klaipeda was declared the Youth Capital of Europe of 2021, Brnabic underlined that this is very important for creating a better future for the generations to come and for preventing brain drain.

My vision of smart governance is that governments need to think less and listen more. My goal is to support as many concrete initiatives as possible, especially those coming from young people, Brnabic said.

She said that the government allocated funds in the amount of €20 million so that next year alone 500 schools in Serbia be equipped with computers.

According to her, by 2020, all our schools will have access to high-speed internet and digital textbooks as a standard for certain subjects.

The Youth Capital of Europe is a title that the European Youth Forum awards to one European city for a period of one year, and the process is designed to empower young people, increase youth participation and strengthen European identity at the local level.

Mayor of Novi Sad Milos Vucevic said that the city, as the host of the ceremony, won this prestigious title for 2019.

He pointed out that Novi Sad today hosts one of the biggest events in the field of youth policy, which is attended by more than 300 members of the European Youth Forum, as well as diplomatic corps and officials.

The ceremony of announcing the Youth Capital of Europe for 2021 was also attended by Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia Sem Fabrizi.
