New government website for better communication with citizens

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended today at the Serbian Association for the Blind the presentation of a new website of the Serbian government, during which an option for easy use by the blind and visually impaired people was presented and a possibility to read the content in the Serbian language by using a text-to-speech software.

Brnabic pointed out that the main features of the new website, redesigned for the first time in 14 years, are transparency, openness and a two-way communication with citizens.

The website is an important mechanism in the process of transformation of public administration into a citizen-focused service, Brnabic highlighted.

Through the new government portal, citizens can make questions to the relevant authorities and get answers, which is why the focus of the website are the services for citizens and the economy, and the slogan is "in the service of citizens".

At the same time, the new portal is a hub for the promotion of not only the government and ministries, but also the place where Serbia's potentials, business climate, tourist destinations and cultural sights are presented. The website also contains an audio and video archive and electronic documents from government sessions since 2004, as well as an archive of all government websites since 1998, thus presenting the continuity of the public administration.

Speaking about the text-to-speech option, Brnabic said that this is a very important step in building an inclusive society.

Today's technologies enable us to make services that are easily accessible to everyone, the Prime Minister said, adding that this is a way to improve the quality of life of the people with disabilities, through dialogue with them.

Director of the Office for Information Technologies and E-Government Mihailo Jovanovic said that the website represents a step further towards the digital transformation of the country.

Domestic knowledge and talent were used in the development of the website because the text-to-speech option was prepared by experts from AlfaNum from Novi Sad and the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Jovanovic said and added that the Serbian government is the only government in the region that has a website with this option.

Director of company AlfaNum Darko Pekar presented technical characteristics of the software and explained that it is a unique and modern solution.

During the presentation of the new government web portal, member of the Serbian Association for the Blind Boris Doncic demonstrated how the blind and visually impaired people can use the new website.

This is an excellent project of the government that means a lot to us. It is very important to us that someone first asked us for an opinion and that our needs and proposals are being heard, Doncic said.

President of the Serbian Association for the Blind Milan Stosic expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and all members of the Serbian government for continuous support to improving the quality of life of the blind and visually impaired people.
