Today Brnabic led the state commemorative ceremony at the Jajinci memorial in Belgrade, dedicated to preserving memories of tens of thousands of brutally liquidated at that site in World War II.
Brnabic said that Serbia was attacked heavily three times in thr 20th century: in 1914, in 1941 and in 1999.
As the main memorials, she singled out the Monument to the Unknown Hero, Jajinci memorial and Avala Tower.
Millions of people died during the wars in the 20th century, she said, noting that millions also disappeared in the madness of the violent breakup of Yugoslavia, in the fires and in the frenzied confusion.
We are obliged to keep the memory of those fallen as the backbone of our identity and our culture, to transmit them to the generations to come.
In the time in which we live, we must make important decisions for our people and our country.
We want to keep our heritage of the generations of our ancestors and, after many historical failings and tragedies, as well as our own big mistakes, open the gate of a happy future for us and the generations to come.
Peace is the highest value, and in the Balkans it was the most missing during history. Today Serbia is making three steps ahead of its neighbours in the policy of overcoming inherited conflicts.
Through negotiations with countries in the region, with the European Union and the most important world powers, perseverance, endurance, patience and dedicated activism, we have created a respected and widely accepted international position of our country.
Friendships were created where they rarely existed and where few expected it.
This is the biggest step forward in Serbia in the last thirty years. Its effects are also visible in the growth of the national economy.
In spite of enormous difficulties, resistance and stumbling, we are actively seeking the most favourable solution for the issue of Kosovo-Metohija.
Today, Serbia is pursuing a realistic and responsible policy, a policy of peace, stability and development, and this is the best message I can send to citizens from here, she said.
The results of this policy will be a dedication to all who have created in different ways the glorious and honorable history of our country and our people.
At this time, we devote all our love and we give immense gratitude to the fervor for the common and eternal ideals on this spot, Brnabic noted.
