UNMIK to remain in Kosovo-Metohija

Belgrade/New York, 28 September 2018

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic met late yesterday, on the eve of her speech at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic.

For the UN, Kosovo is not a state, Guterres underlined during the talks and added that the UN will support the agreement that Belgrade and Pristina make regarding Kosovo-Metohija.

Prime Minister Brnabic said that Serbia is committed to the vision and mission of the UN.

We believe that the UN should have a more active role in international relations, Brnabic underlined.

She said that Serbia is actively contributing to the UN's peacekeeping process and that more than 300 women and men from our country are participating in peacekeeping missions around the world.

It is in the interests of Serbia that UNMIK remain in Kosovo-Metohija in an unreduced number and without a change in the mandate, which I pointed out at the "Action for Peace" meeting", the Prime Minister stated.

The UN Secretary-General confirmed during the talks that the UNMIK shall remain in Kosovo-Metohija.

Brnabic noted that President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is leading the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, while Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic is actively working to convey to the world the message about what Serbia has done.

We are committed to finding a solution and we do not want a frozen conflict, the Prime Minister of Serbia said.

Minister Dacic invited Guterres once more to visit Serbia.
