Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that constitutional reforms are important for the citizens of Serbia, not for EU membership, since these reforms should ensure that we have an independent, efficient and responsible judiciary that citizens and the economy can trust.

Brnabic pointed out at the roundtable on the Draft constitutional amendments in the field of justice that there is currently dialogue as to how to reach the final goal that would be satisfactory to all.
In every serious society there is a check and balance system, which means that in no country the judiciary can be totally independent from everybody else, or lead itself on its own, the Prime Minister said, adding that this should not be the case in Serbia either.
This system provides control of one branch of power in relation to others, Brnabic underlined, and assessed that the Ministry of Justice has made enormous effort in the previous period and has done a good job when it comes to constitutional reform.
