7,346 jobless apply for micro loans

Head of employment programmes at the National Employment Service Branka Radovic said today that 7,346 unemployed persons have applied for micro loans for the purposes of starting their own businesses and she announced that a decision on which projects will receive funding will be made by the end of the week.

Radovic told a press conference yesterday that the total value of applications is €90 million and 600 million dinars have been earmarked for this purpose in the Serbian budget, or one twelfth of the requested sum.
She recalled, however, that Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic has announced that a revision of the budget will add a further 400 million dinars for micro loans for the unemployed.
Radovic said that these loans will range between €5,000 and €20,000, with an annual interest of one percent, grace period of one year, and repayment over three to five years. She added that a tender for granting subsidies for the jobless will be opened tomorrow.
She said that applications must be submitted within 15 days’ time and that subsidies will range between 80,000 dinars and 150,000 dinars.
