Important cooperation, improvement of relations between Serbia, United States

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, on the first day of her visit to Washington, held several meetings with members of the US Congress, with whom she discussed the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and the United States.

Brnabic met with congressmen Ted Poe and Emanuel Cleaver, co-chairs of the Serbian Caucus.
In a cordial conversation, Prime Minister Brnabic thanked them for their engagement in the Serbian Caucus and the promotion and affirmation of topics and issues of importance to Serbia.
The celebration of the 100th anniversary of raising the Serbian flag in front of the White House is confirmation of the historical links and friendship of our two countries and two nations, Brnabic pointed out.
The officials concluded that further improvement of relations between Serbia and the United States is in the mutual interest of the two countries.
The Prime Minister especially thanked Congressman Poe, who co-chairs the Serbian Caucus since January 2013, on his dedicated engagement in improving the relations between the two countries.
She also thanked Congressman Cleaiver, who, as a member of the US Commission for the First World War, for his commitment to strengthening cultural and historical cooperation.
They talked about improving economic cooperation and attracting US investments.
Prime Minister Brnabic invited the two Congressmen to visit Serbia by the end of this year.

In the continuation of the visit, the Serbian Prime Minister spoke with Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Senate and the Subcommittee for Europe.
Shaheen pointed out that the region of the Western Balkans is extremely important for the United States.
Brnabic and Shaheen discussed current economic issues in the region and the support provided by the United States to the Western Balkans.
Shaheen stressed that the United States supports the continuation of reforms and the stability of the region and its European perspective.
Serbia is grateful for the support of the United States in the process of European integration, Brnabic said and stressed that EU membership is a key foreign policy goal.

Brnabic also met with Senator James Risch, who is also a member of the Senate Foreign Policy Committee.
Brnabić and Risch spoke about current political issues in the Western Balkans and the improvement of relations between the United States and the Republic of Serbia.
In her talks with congressmen and senators, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic pointed out that Serbia is open to a partnership dialogue with the United States.
In particular, I would like to emphasise the importance of retaining the existing scope of KFOR forces in Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the American participation in that mission in order to protect the Serb community and preserve stability in Kosovo-Metohija, Brnabic pointed out.
US officials have positively assessed the engagement of members of the Serbian Army in peacekeeping missions under the UN and EU mandate, as well as cooperation with NATO within the Partnership for Peace program.
In continuing her visit to Washington, Brnabic will meet with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.
