Continuation of structural reforms, modernisation of whole society priority for government

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic began a visit to the United States with a working dinner with representatives of the EastWest Institute in New York.

In a conversation with the President and members of the Institute, the Prime Minister presented the current economic situation in Serbia and the priorities of the government.

She pointed out that in the past three years, Serbia has significantly transformed its economy, which is confirmed by the economic indicators and recognitions of relevant and credible international institutions.

Last year, she recalled, the World Bank declared Serbia the leader in the implementation of reforms in Southeast Europe and increased the credit rating of Serbia.

In particular, Brnabic pointed out that Serbia is the leader in attracting foreign direct investments – in the first five months of this year, the net inflow of foreign direct investments amounted to more than €1.1 billion, which is 15.8% more than in the same period last year.

She also highlighted the trend of increasing exports this year, primarily the export of IT services, which rose by as much as 33% in the first four months of this year.

The priorities of this government are digitization and education, said Brnabic, adding that they are crucial for the long-term sustainable development of the entire society.

Also, the Prime Minister stressed that significant results have been achieved in strengthening the e-government.

The fight against corruption and the strengthening of the rule of law remain among the priorities of the government, because our goal is to create a better society for all citizens of Serbia and predictable business conditions for both foreign and domestic companies, the Prime Minister said.

She said that we continue to work on improving overall business conditions, reducing administrative barriers, improving the business climate and further empowering the economy and improving the conditions for work.

We want our economy to be more reliant on modern technology and innovations and we are working on linking science and the economy, she said.

In order to achieve our long-term sustainability, we pay special attention to culture, because it is the basis for the development of every nation and the preservation of identity, Brnabic concluded.
