EU supports Serbia in implementing reforms in field of judiciary

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic expressed satisfaction during today’s talks with European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn over the signing of the Agreement for implementation of the IPA Action Programme for Serbia, which will support reform of the rule of law and help strengthen the Serbian public administration.
At the meeting, which was attended by Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic, it was pointed out that the goal of the agreement is the support to the institutions of justice in Serbia, the Ministry of Justice, the judiciary and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, so that they would become more efficient and transparent.
The Prime Minister also said that after the harmonisation of the Draft of the constitutional amendments with recommendations of the Venice Commission, Serbia will receive a document which will be fully in line with European standards and practice and whose aim is the strengthening of the independence and accountability of the judiciary.
Brnabic recalled once more that the Venice Commission recognised crucial solutions for Serbia for the strengthening of an independent and unbiased judiciary.
Hahn underlined that the EU supports Serbia in the implementation of reforms in the field of the judiciary, and added that progress in the rule of law also influences the speed of Serbia’s accession to the EU.
In addition, Brnabic and Hahn discussed the upcoming Summit of the Western Balkans to be held in London on 10 July as part of the Berlin Process.
