The ceremony of electronic signing of the contracts was held in the presence of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic, 30 directors of institutes and faculty deans, as well as 200 PhD candidates who signed the contracts earlier this year.
Brnabic said in her address that at the beginning of her mandate, she publicly promised that the state of Serbia would invest much more in education and science, as a priority of the government of Serbia. Today, here before you I can say that this is just the beginning.
She congratulated PhD candidates for the beginning of their scientific career, stressing that young scientists are the engine of development of a new and modern Serbia and that it is time for them to receive deserved respect and social recognition.
Your role is huge because Serbia needs new knowledge for the new era. You are the elite of Serbia in the best sense of this word, she underlined, adding that knowledge, creativity and ideas are the values that we need and that our chance to create a better future together.
Sarcevic said that the total science budget this year increased by 15.2% compared to the previous one, and added that the government will continue this positive trend of investment in science in the coming years because we want to ensure a secure future for Serbian science.
