Brnabic pointed out that Serbia is fully committed to the goals and shares the values represented by the Union, first of all in terms of promoting peace and active international cooperation on issues of global importance, defence and promotion of universal human rights, gender equality and rights of the child.
According to Brnabic, special attention is given to issues of the youth, gender equality and equal representation of the sexes in Serbia, noting that the two most important institutions in Serbia - the National Assembly and the Government are led by women, and that the Serbian parliament has more female MPs than the global average, which is very important for Serbia, as an EU candidate country.
Brnabic thanked Mexico once more for consistently respecting the principles of international law and its support regarding Kosovo-Metohija.
President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron commended Serbia’s active participation in the IPU, as well as efforts of our state in the reform of the judiciary, the rule of law and other areas of exceptional importance for the European path and the economic and political stability of the country.
Cuevas Barron agreed that for Serbia the exchange of experiences with IPU in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda is important, through events like the Regional seminar on the sustainable development goals, which has been organised by the IPU and the Serbian National Assembly and is taking place in Belgrade on 24-25 May.
