Slavica Djukic Dejanovic and Ana Brnabic
This document, which should be adopted soon by the Serbian government, introduces a number of new measures that take into account the results of the research, which were conducted in this sphere for a period of nine years, in between two strategies.
For this year, the Serbian government has allocated RSD 566 million for population policy measures, almost five times more than last year.
The session was chaired by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and it also featured Minister without portfolio in charge of demography and population policy Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Population Policy Council.
The Council also discussed the possibility of stimulating socially responsible employers to support parents, and Brnabic asked the representative of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce to propose rewards for socially responsible companies.
Also, the Council was informed that a research on students’ plans for future migration is underway, both within the Republic of Serbia and abroad.
The questionnaire was filled by 11,000 students, or five percent of the total number of students enrolled in 2016.
The aim of the research is to provide reliable data that will be used as a good basis for the management of migration of the young, highly educated people, and will also serve to plan activities and create concrete mechanisms and measures in this area in order to create a favourable environment for young people to remain in Serbia or to return to Serbia after completing studies abroad.
The research is conducted by the Office of the Minister without portfolio in charge of demography and population policy, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Serbian Statistics Office.
The results of the research will be presented in May 2018.
