Speaking at a press conference held at the Serbian government building, Okolisanov said that this year alone, 3,900 new companies were founded and registered at the Agency, noting that it was a major achievement of the Agency’s work. In 2004, a total of 6,329 companies were founded.
Okolisanov said that it is the tendency for new companies to be registered as limited liability companies (Llc) and that most companies are service-oriented. He noted that only 10 percent of new companies are engaging in production activities.
According to Okolisanov, companies that fail to register with the Agency will be considered inactive and will not have the right to a name.
Okolisanov said that the Agency also includes the Financial Leasing Register, and that the Pledges Register is expected to start its work on July 1.
Consultant at the Ministry of Economy Andreja Marusic said that the Agency received international support in the form of donations and technical assistance from the World Bank, the Swedish International Development Agency, USAID and Microsoft. It has also established good cooperation with similar institutions in Europe.
Okolisanov assessed that Serbia has obtained an important place in the reform of economic entities and pointed out that this was the first country in the region to carry out such reform.
