In a meeting with Leuthard, who is also Minister of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications and Vice President of the Federal Council, Brnabic said that Switzerland with more than €800 million of investments, as well as opening more than 8,000 jobs, is one of the significant investors in the Serbian economy.
She pointed out that after the stabilization of the economy and public finances, the goal of the government of Serbia is to further our economic growth based on innovations, which can help us with the experience of Swiss companies and organisations that represent the world leaders in their fields.
In particular, she highlighted the experiences and examples of good practice in the fields of information technology, digitalization and innovation in the economy.
According to Brnabic, Switzerland has the role of the most important foreign trade partner of Serbia within the EFTA (European Free Trade Association), the Mixed Committee for Economic Cooperation, established in 2001, as well as the Mixed Chamber of Commerce.
At the meeting, they talked about further cooperation in the field of education and dual education, where Brnabic stressed that Switzerland, apart from Germany and Austria, is the most important partner in introducing a dual education system and in linking and bringing the education system closer to the needs of the economy.
She stated that the basic aim of the dual education model is to reduce youth unemployment and better connectivity between the economy and the education system, which is why Swiss experience and expert assistance in the restructuring of the education system are extremely important for Serbia.
Brnabic expressed her gratitude to Switzerland for its support in the process of European integration of Serbia, as well as the assistance that the Swiss organization SDC provides to Serbia in establishing more balanced regional development and strengthening local self-governments.
Switzerland is also among the most important countries in terms of donor and humanitarian aid, as it donated more than 300 million Swiss francs since 1991, in the fields of energy, education, local government, as well as governance, civic initiatives and inclusion.
The Swiss organization Digital Switzerland supported the establishment of the Digital Serbia Initiative in May this year, which further links the two countries.
