RSD 130m allocated for population policy measures

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic today chaired a meeting of the Population Policy Council, at which it was pointed out that population policies are already being implemented in 15 municipalities in Serbia, for which the government allocated from the budget RSD 130 million.

On this occasion, Brnabic emphasised the increasing visibility of measures to encourage birth, and announced that a reward would be established for the companies that will carry out those measures most efficiently.

She stressed that the state must impact preventing delays in the payment of salaries for maternity and parental leave, as the practice has shown that the delays are caused by extensive documentation and the manual processing rather than electronic.

Deputy Chairman of the Population Policy Council and Minister without Portfolio in charge of demography and population policy Slavica Djukic Dejanovic provided data on the municipalities to which the funds were allocated.

Seven municipalities, where demographic indicators are very poor, are located in southeastern Serbia, and these are Gadzin Han, Vlasotince, Blace, Dimitrovgrad, Golubac, Crna Trava and Prokuplje.

Also, three municipalities with poor indicators are located in central and western Serbia - Knic, Nova Varos and Trstenik, while such five municipalities are in Vojvodina - Secanj, Sid, Irig, Backa Topola and Zitište.

These municipalities have so far spent approximately 75% of funds received for projects which are covered by various measures – from infrastructure works to expand the capacity of childcare facilities, incentive funds to start or develop their own business, additional health services, activation of youth counseling and population education .

The cabinet of the Minister without portfolio in charge of demograpy and population policy initiated by linking the institutions at the local level, such as public health institutes, health centres, schools, kindergartens, cultural institutions, media, youth offices, the Development Agency of Serbia, Serbian Chamber of Commerce and non-governmental organisations, in support of existing and introducing new measures of population policy.

The session of the Council was also attended by a representative of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, who, at the initiative of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, is preparing models of support to employers, through which the state should encourage socially responsible business.

The Ministry of Culture and the Media is responsible for announcing a public competition for the creation of slogans that will be used to present measures of population policy.
