Brnabic said at a meeting held on the occasion of the completion of the pilot programme held at the Palace of Serbia that in view of the fact that digitization and support to the IT sector is one of the key priorities of the government of Serbia, and that the pilot phase confirmed the need of the market for IT professionals, it was decided to continue the retraining programme for 900 students more.
That way we will fulfil the promise that this year 1000 people will be included in the retraining programme, Brnabic underlined.
She said that the IT sector grows by over 10% annually and as part of it, IT programming by over 20% annually.
The Prime Minister stated that since this sector lacks between 15,000 and 20,000 software developers, the government is helping to solve the problem of staff shortages through various measures.
Brnabic pointed out that in addition to increasing the number of places at IT faculties and strengthening their capacities and introducing informatics as a compulsory subject, the IT retraining project is another step in that direction.
Serbia wants to be a leader when it comes to new technologies, Brnabic said, adding that digitization is a huge development opportunity for Serbia and our opportunity to catch up with the developed world.
