The community "New Leaders for Europe", of which Brnabic has been a member since its establishment in November 2016, is made up of young politicians and decision-makers from several European countries.
The participants in the meeting discussed the current challenges that Europe faces in five key areas: democracy and governance, energy sustainability, migration and borders, security and defence, and a people-centred economy.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who will chair the Working Group on Migration and Border Policy within the framework of the World Economic Forum, presented the platform of this group.
Brnabic pointed out that the current migrant crisis with which Europe and the world are faced, has shown the necessity of cooperation and joint action of all actors on the international scene, and above all in Europe.
The Prime Minister said that the chairmanship of this working group is a recognition to Serbia and all citizens of Serbia for showing great hospitality to migrants and providing help to people who are in trouble.
More than one million people from endangered countries have passed through our country and at no point did we close our borders. Not only that, in this school year, 645 migrant children is attending schools in Serbia, Brnabic pointed out.
According to her, this has been recognized in Europe and the chairmanship of this working group is recognition to Serbia's efforts in the migrant crisis.
Speaking about the goals of the Migration and Borders Working Group, Brnabic said that it will rely on the four pillars defined by the World Economic Forum, which are the management of flows of people and control of the borders of European countries, as well as the issue of integration of migrants into Europe, which are all very important issues.
What I consider to be particularly important is to change and improve the public image of migrants in European public opinion, she said, adding that we must strive to create an inclusive Europe that will take advantage of the benefits of migration and which will nurture the values of openness and inclusion.
Brnabic is the first representative of Serbia to chair a working group within the World Economic Forum, which analyzes policies related to the most current political, economic, social and security issues.
The suggestions, recommendations and conclusions that will be adopted by the working groups will be presented next year at the regular annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The “New Leaders for Europe” community is part of the initiative of the World Economic Forum "New Concept for Europe", formed with the aim of developing the concept of a future-oriented Europe.
More than 160 participants of the World Economic Forum will speak tomorrow at the meeting in Milan about the most important challenges Europe and the world are facing today.
