Deputy Head of the Serbian Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Police Zoran Djokic stated today that the police have solved the first case of internet paedophilia in Serbia, wherein photographs of sexually abused children were distributed over the internet.
The police arrested a 19 year-old man in Sabac on April 26 who they suspected of distributing 23 photographs of sexually abused children from November 18 to 23 last year, but his identity was not announced as the investigation is still in progress.
Djokic told the press conference that the information regarding child pornography was forwarded to the Serbian Ministry of Interior by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) through Interpol.
He underlined that it was necessary to adopt the necessary laws in order to successfully combat such crime and reminded that the bill on the competence of state bodies in the fight against computer crime was in parliamentary procedure.
According to him, the fight against the distribution of internet pornography requires round the clock surveillance.
Lieutenant Sasa Zivanovic of the Serbian Criminal Police stated that identification of victims was underway but that the police cannot give further details about this case. He underlined that this crime warrants a 3 to 15 year jail sentence.
