Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic said today that the Serbian government will help in the building of new houses for all of those whose homes were destroyed in a flood that hit Secanj, Plandiste, and Zitiste in Vojvodina and that the work will be completed before winter.
Ilic told a press conference that the construction of houses will begin immediately after the flood waters recede and that the ministry will be in charge of organising and implementing the project.
The Serbian government agreed to send emergency aid totalling 59 million dinars. The Vojvodina government has already provided 29 million dinars in flood relief aid.
Ilic said that a further 10 million dinars is intended for the town of Zrenjanin as aid to the families of the victims of last week’s bus crash on a bridge over the Tisa River.
The Minister said that 4,000 food packages will be sent to the flooded areas from the Serbian Commodity Reserves, along with drinking water, tents, blankets, and power generators.
According to him, 2,000 packages are already being distributed through the Red Cross. He added that the Commodity Reserves will also approve stock feed given that large amounts of farm animals are dying in the affected areas.
