Safety in southern Serbia will not be jeopardised

President of the Serbian government’s Coordinating Body for Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja Zoran Stankovic warned today that a large wave of migrants is expected during this week and that nearly 23,000 refugees will enter Serbia from Macedonia.

Stankovic said at a press conference that so many people are expected because Macedonia and Greece are letting pass all those who are on their territory, bearing in mind that Hungary will soon tighten the law on illegal crossing of the border.
According to him, approximately 2,000 people are currently in Presevo, and about 1,000 are on their way from Miratovac camp to the reception centre.
He also warned that the cold weather and rain create additional problems in the accommodation and the transportation of migrants.
Stankovic did not want to comment on the possibility of establishing the so-called community of Albanian municipalities, stressing that the security on the area of these municipalities would not be jeopardised even if part of ethnic Albanians did that tomorrow.
Stankovic noted that the Coordinating Body is in regular contact with representatives of the international community, and that none of them even mentioned that they support the idea of forming such a community.
He also rejected any possibility of indentifying the Community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo-Metohija with the community of Albanian municipalities in southern Serbia, pointing out that Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja were not even mentioned during many talks in Brussels.
