Bozovic presents results of Inspector General’s Service

Inspector General at the Serbian Ministry of Interior Vladimir Bozovic said today that the connections between the police and crime have been broken over the past year, adding that no one will ever be allowed to change that.

Bozovic told a press conference occasioned by one year of his term in office, that a new, modern and democratised Serbian police is being created. He added that the police and the Inspector General’s Service will act exclusively in the interest of citizens, with no politics involved whatsoever.
Serbia cannot join Europe if police members apply torture and use “medieval” methods and means in their work, he said and added that the Service is fighting against those old methods that are illegal and anti-European.
The Service, that is in charge of interior control, is obliged to take care of the situation in the police and their work conditions, Bozovic recalled and added that the control showed that a majority of police members in Serbia perform their tasks in difficult conditions, but respecting the law and rules of professionalism.
The level and standards finally need to be set up and introduced in practice, Bozovic said and expressed hope that the Service will be more engaged on internal control once it gets its place, role and authorisations in the new law on police.
